In response to the increasing demand for reliable and accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, our team was appointed to deliver a comprehensive EV charging installation at the Central Car Park in York. This project formed part of a wider initiative by the local council and City Centre Parking Ltd to encourage cleaner transportation options and reduce the city’s overall carbon footprint.
The car park, located in a high traffic urban area, serves hundreds of commuters, residents, and visitors daily. The client’s goal was to future proof the site by integrating smart charging technology capable of supporting both current and anticipated EV adoption levels over the next decade. Our role was to design and implement a robust, scalable, and easy to use charging network that would provide convenience for drivers while minimizing operational disruption to the car park’s day to day activities.
From the initial feasibility studies to the final commissioning, our team managed every phase of the project. Detailed site surveys and electrical load assessments guided the design of a solution that balanced performance, energy efficiency, and safety. The installation included twelve dual-socket 22kw AC chargers, allowing up to twenty-four vehicles to charge simultaneously, supported by intelligent load management software to optimize energy distribution.
Throughout the six-week project, careful coordination with the client, local authorities, and the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) ensured compliance with all technical and safety regulations. The final installation delivers a dependable, user-friendly EV charging experience, positioning the car park as a key charging destination in the city centre and contributing to a more sustainable urban transport network.
